Who are these guys?
According to classmate Tom Marrapode, 1st row, #6, this is the Kittanning Jr. High School Colts team from 1956.

John Shaner wrote to say that he remembers the team
to be ".... part of a 8 or 10 team league that
the borough developed in the 50's as a little league football program. All the
teams were named after pro teams, and they supplied us with uniforms and
equipment. It was a great league, because every kid in town who wanted to play
had a chance. John Whelan and I played in the Steelers, Hutch was quarterback
for the Bears, I think, and on and on. I have a picture here somewhere like that
one, but of the Steelers. I can remember that many of the old K I's team members
were the coaches. Maybe they started the league. Anyway, after a few years the
league fell apart and kids had no football until jr. high. I remember
those teams well." |
