Donna Cribbs DeVries, a Red Hat classmate from Michigan, registered the KHS class of 1960 as Red Hat Wildchatters in 2004. Last year at a mini-reunion, Cribbs made us hats and gave us a taste of just what it means to be a Red Hat.
The 45th Reunion gave Cribbs an opportunity to
hold a luncheon -- Red Hat style. Completely on her own, Cribbs, aka Donna Kaween,
contacted everyone on the KHS class e-mail list. Spouses of classmates were
also invited and, so she wouldn't forget anyone, Donna Kaween sent letters and
made many phone calls to classmates including spouses that were not on the
e-mail list but who were attending the reunion.
Donna Kaween encouraged everyone to RSVP and, at the Friday night Hot Dogs in the Park, the Kaween handed out her specially made invitations. The invitation announced the first official get-together of the Wildchatters. The luncheon was at the Cadet and, of course, I had a Poor Boy and Onion Rings!!!!
Donna Kaween made all the table decorations, created games, gave prizes, informed us of some Red Hat traditions, made everyone a Red Hat
Survival Kit and even got Donna Humphrey Wyant and me to play the kazoo while everyone sang the KHS Alma Mater. Donna Kaween urged everyone to celebrate the art of aging, not the act of aging.
The luncheon also had a guest "waiter" -- none other than our Class President, Dave Schrecengost; but, in his Red Hat
he was known as Davidia.
As you will soon see by the pictures on this page and the following pages, everyone had a great time. Donna Kaween appointed and crowned Patty Crawford Johnston as the new Kaween of the KHS Class of 1960 Wildchatters.
Thanks Cribbs,
Ex-Kazoo Player Kay
NOTE:
Patty Crawford Johnston is making a "last call" for Red Hat
members. If you would like to be part of the Red Hat activities this
coming August (and possibly at other times in the year), please email Patty
and let her know that you want to join the group. Even if you were a
member of the Red Hats at the 2005 Reunion, you must email Patty and let her
know that you want to remain a member. Any female classmate may join the
group--even if you weren't a member in 2005. Spouses (and significant
others) of male classmates are also encouraged to join. If you know of
anyone who is interested in the Red Hats; but they aren't on the Class Email
List, please tell them about Patty's request. Patty's email address is:
